Mutse, nine years old, lived in a small village with his mother, Patricia. His father died when he was eight. Close to the village there was a forest. Inside the forest, there was a short cut fashioned by the villagers.
A few months back a woman had been raped and murdered there. Some people have seen her ghost roaming in the forest. The priest has concluded the forest wvas haunted and has advised the villagers, especially school children, not to use that short cut.
According to Patricia, her son was too young to know about the ghost and, about those details related to her atrocious murder. Hence, almost every day she warned her son not to use the shortcut. The reason she put forward was that he was still very young. But Mutse could hardly digest that. Instead, his mother’s constant dissuasion had roused his curiosity.
Finally at all cost, no matter what, he had wanted to use the short cut…
